Too much grass. Why would I want to mow all that stuff? And the incline makes mowing risky anyway. So here was the basic procedure. Lay out new plants. Plant new plants. Put down newspaper or cardboard to kill off the grass and put that nitrogen back into the soil. Use landscape staples to hold down cardboard as necessary. Cover cardboard or newspaper with mulch. Wait for new plant takeover.

And that's how you stage a takeover.
